Williamstown Veterinary Hospital offers a four week course which covers basic puppy training and socialisation.
The course runs for four weeks, on Wednesday evenings between 6:30pm—7:30pm.

Our program costs $77 - and is full of learning, great fun, praise, laughter and love! At the end of the course each graduate receives a graduation certificate and a pre-school pack.

Puppies should be between 6 and 16 weeks of age to join our classes and must be vaccinated.

Topics discussed in each class are:

Week 1
Week one is an introduction to:

  • Training
  • The Recall ( which is when you ask your puppy to come back to you)
  • The Sit 
  • Mouthing & Play Biting 
  • Jumping Up (Learn how to deter it)
  • All manner’s are rewarded with treats and positive reinforcement

Intestinal Worms

  • Roundworm
  • Hookworm
  • Tapeworm
    ^ What they are and how to treat and prevent them!

Week 2
In week 2 we now switch to an intermittent reinforcement schedule. This will mean randomly rewarding your puppy with food as they learn!

Health needs are discussed and the manner’s training is continued.

Health Topics discussed are:

  • Desexing
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm Prevention
  • Fleas & Flea Treatment
  • The Examination Table

Week 3
Week Three covers problematic dog behaviours like:

  • Boredom 
  • Attention Seeking 
  • Fear
  • The Stay

During week 3 we show you (and your puppy) around our hospital facility giving you some insight into what goes on behind the scenes at Williamstown Vet Hospital.

Week 4
In week Four we cover a range of issues like...

  • Thunderstorm desensitisation.
  • Nutrition with key aspects like...
    • Food intake per day (e.g how many meals for the specific age or breed)
    • Food Facts &
    • Obesity / Health Problems
    • And lastly - A chat about Bones!

This is also the week where graduation photos are taken (wearing graduation caps!)
