Small animal endoscopy is a rapidly growing field with numerous soft tissue and orthopaedic applications.
Endoscopy allows a visual examination of internal organs and body parts without invasive exploratory surgery.
Endoscopy is performed with either a rigid or flexible fiberoptic instrument.
We have a flexible endoscope which allows us to perform the following procedures:
- Bronchoscopy: an exam of the lower airways for the evaluation of canine and feline respiratory diseases.
- Colonoscopy: an exam of the colon, cecum, large bowel and rectum. Colonoscopy is useful to diagnose many large bowel diseases or generalized intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or diffuse intestinal lymphosarcoma.
- Gastroscopy: an exam of the oesophagus, stomach, and upper intestines. Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy is perhaps the most widely indicated application of endoscopy in small animals. A partial list of indications includes regurgitation, dysphagia, salivation, nausea, vomiting, hematemesis, melena, anorexia, diarrhoea, weight loss and faecal mucus.
